Demi Moore began her career as a soap opera actress, but quickly rose to super-stardom in Hollywood. She is now one of the most recognized and highest paid actresses in the world.

Demi Moore

Childhood

Demi Moore was born on November 11, 1962, in Roswell, New Mexico. She was named Demetria Gene Guynes. Her birth father left her mother before she was born, and her childhood was anything but easy. Both Moore's mother and stepfather were abusive alcoholics, and her stepfather was also addicted to gambling. He ended up committing suicide when Moore was 18 years old.

Health problems also plagued Demi. She was born with crossed eyes that required two surgeries to correct, and suffered from kidney problems as well.

Early Career

When Moore was 16 years old, she quit high school and became a pin-up model. In 1979, she married singer-songwriter Freddy Moore.

Demi Moore got her first movie role in the 1981 TV movie Choices, where she had only a small part. Her second film was the science fiction thriller Parasite. After making a cameo appearance in the spoof Young Doctors in Love, Moore made the move to a full-time soap opera role.

Moore joined the cast of General Hospital, playing the character Jackie Templeton from 1982 to 1983. This was followed by a role in 1984's Blame it on Rio.

The Brat Pack

In 1985, Moore became one of the original members of the Brat Pack, a group of in-demand young actors and actresses who were featured in a number of teen movies in the 1980s, which included Tom Cruise and Kiefer Sutherland. The first film that brought her major attention was St. Elmo's Fire.

At the time, Moore was experimenting with recreational drugs and actually showed up on the set of St. Elmo's Fire while she was high. Her character was a drug addict, but director Joel Schumacher urged her to give up the drugs and sent her home. She decided then that she would not continue down this path, and has been clean ever since.

Demi Moore Makes It Big

After St. Elmo's Fire, Demi Moore went on to star in a string of movies that propelled her to new heights of stardom. Some of the most well known Moore films include:

  • The Butcher's Wife

  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame
  • G.I. Jane

As the blockbuster movies piled up, so did Moore's salary. Her appearance in The Hunchback of Notre Dame made her the first actress to earn ten million dollars for a movie role.

After filming the movie Deconstructing Harry in 1997, Moore decided to take a break from acting. Her return came in 2003, with the role of villain Madison Lee in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. This role brought much praise for Moore for both her acting and her sensational looks after turning 40.

She went on to star in the highly successful films Bobby and Mr. Brooks, and continues to pursue challenging Hollywood movie roles.

Romances and Marriages

After divorcing Freddy Moore in 1985, Moore became engaged to fellow Brat Packer, Emilio Estevez, but the marriage never occurred. Shortly thereafter, Moore married actor Bruce Willis in 1987.

Willis and Moore were married for eleven years and have three children together: Rumer, born in 1988, Scout LaRue, born in 1991, and Tallulah Belle, born in 1994.

In 2003, Moore met actor Ashton Kutcher, who is 15 years younger. Despite the age difference, the pair fell in love and married in September of 2005. The couple is a favorite of the paparazzi, and their pictures appear often in the tabloids and entertainment magazines. Moore's ex-husband Bruce Willis is good friends with both Moore and Kutcher.
