Dakota was born Hannah Dakota Fanning, on February 23, 1994, in Conyers, Georgia. Her mother, Joy Arrington, is a professional tennis player and her dad, Steve Fanning, played minor league baseball before becoming a salesman. Dakota's older sister, Elle, is also an actress, who appeared in the award-winning movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Dakota has a total of thirteen brothers and sisters.
When she was still very young, Dakota attended a weekly playhouse where the children would put on plays and skits for their families. She stood out then and other parents encouraged her own parents to consider putting Dakota into acting.
The family now lives in California and Dakota goes to Campbell Hall school in North Hollywood. She does well in her studies and is a member of the cheer leading squad there.
Dakota Fanning Bio in Acting
Fanning's first role came when she was only five years old, and appeared in a commercial for Tide laundry soap. After doing a voiceover for the Disney film My Neighbor Tortoro, Fanning landed the role of an accident victim in the TV series ER. This led to her portrayal of a young Ally in the series Ally McBeal.
