Celebrity Skin Problems
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
With a team of makeup artists and an arsenal of beauty products, it’s hard to believe that celebrity skin problems exist. Even the rich and famous have blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin tones, but they do have the resources to minimize the appearance of these issues.
Beauty Regimens
Celebrities often interview that they prescribe to a number of “beauty secrets” to keep celebrity skin problems to a minimum. Among the tried and true beauty regimens for healthy skin are:
- Eating a healthy diet
- Engaging in regular exercise
- Drinking plenty of water
- Protecting skin with minimum sun exposure and sunscreen
- Cleansing the skin daily
- Using anti-aging, anti-wrinkle or skin tightening moisturizers
- Getting plenty of rest
- Receiving regular facials
Proactive
One product that has plenty of celebrity testimonials is the Proactive acne treatment system. Celebrities started to reveal their skin problems when the product Proactive came on the market. The before and after photos provide compelling proof that Proactive is effective, and nothing sells products like a celebrity endorsement. The following is a list of celebrities that claim to use Proactive with successful results:
- Lindsay Lohan
- Jessica Simpson
- Britney Spears
- Vanessa L. Williams
- Sean “Puffy” Combs
- Elle Macpherson
- Alicia Keys
- Kelly Clarkson
- Brooke Shields
Mineral Makeup
Another product that celebrities endorse is the mineral makeup Sheer Cover. In an infomercial hosted by Leeza Gibbons and Melissa Gilbert, celebrities discuss how well the product covers blemishes and evens skin tone. In addition to Gibbons and Gilbert, other celebrities who use mineral makeup for a flawless look are:
- Kimberly Locke -- American Idol finalist and Celebrity Fit Club 5 contestant
- Ming Na – actress
- Alyssa Milano – actress
Airbrushed Makeup
High-definition television has introduced a new problem for celebrities – the high quality picture shows many flaws that traditional makeup application can’t hide. Every fine line, wrinkle and blemish shows on HDTV, so celebrities have turned to a new airbrushing makeup application. The makeup is sprayed on and provides a more flawless finish for the unforgiving nature of high definition clarity.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is used by many celebrities to improve wrinkles, acne, scarring and fine lines. Performed by a dermatologist, the aluminum oxide or magnesium oxide high-pressure steam technique peels the top-most layer of skin to reduce imperfections.
Botox Injections
More celebrities are admitting they use Botox injections to remove wrinkles and lines. Most recently, actress Virginia Madsen has become the spokesperson for Allergan, Inc., the maker of Botox. As a regular recipient of these treatments, which require the product to be injected into facial muscles to plump fine lines and creases, Madsen is drawing attention to a beauty technique that has been hush-hush in the Hollywood community.
She hopes to better inform people about how to properly get Botox injections, saying, “I could turn my openness about my treatments into a potential call to action for people who were interested in maintaining their looks, but [who] need to know how to do this in the right way." She also hopes people use the product for minor improvments, saying, “I am not using these injectables to look 25. I don't want to be 25. I just want to look like me."
Other Skin Treatments
- Laser resurfacing – removes damaged layers of skin to even skin tone and texture, and reduce wrinkles
- Chemical peel -- a more intense, often painful procedure for deeper imperfections
- Restylane or Juvederm injections – types of hyaluronic acid used for fine facial lines
- Collagen injections – increases skin’s natural collagen to fill lines
- Prescription retinoids – helps reduce fine lines and pigmentation issues
- Other -- herbal skin treatments, skin buffing, photo pigmentation and moisture therapy
Plastic Surgery
Of course, the most drastic way celebrities address any skin problems or signs of aging is through plastic surgery. With face lifts, eye and nose procedures, some celebrities have been able to slow the aging clock. Visit our interview with Dr. Tony Youn for more information about celebrity plastic surgery.
Celebrity Options
Overall, there are a variety of methods used to improve celebrity skin problems. With makeup artists and airbrushing, celebrities never have to worry about how they look, but non-celebrities have many of the same celebrity secrets for healthy skin. Always research your options thoroughly as some of the procedures and injections do have side effects.
