Some celebrity sex tapes have been around for awhile, while others are just hitting the scene. The following is a list of the more famous videos:

• In 1988, Rob Lowe videotaped his sexual adventures with two women, one who happened to be underage. The video was a temporary blow to his career, but he eventually rebounded and went on to win acting roles again.
• 1 Night in Paris features Paris Hilton and her former boyfriend, Rick Solomon, and their escapades in a hotel room. While she tried to stop distribution, she later conceded and now receives profits from the video. The tape has made more than $50 million.
• Kid Rock and former Creed lead singer Scott Stapp, were videotaped with four groupies on their tour bus. The two have fought to keep the tape from being released.
• Pamela Anderson and former husband Tommy Lee have a now infamous honeymoon video that began circulating online in 1998 under the name Pam & Tommy Lee: Hardcore and Uncensored. A sex video starring Anderson and singer Bret Michaels was released in September 2005, although the video had been circulating online prior to its release.
• Colin Farrell and Playboy Playmate Nicole Narain taped their steamy 13 minutes together, but Farrell was able to block distribution of the video after he sued her. Despite his efforts to thwart distribution, the encounter circulated on the Internet in 2006 for a brief time.
• Kim Kardashian, pal of Paris Hilton, has been trying to keep her sex video with former boyfriend Ray J off shelves.
• Most recently, a sex tape is rumored to exist between Laguna Beach and The Hills star Lauren Conrad and former co-star and boyfriend Jason Wahler. She has reportedly tried to keep the video from seeing the light of day.

Unconfirmed Celebrity Sex Video

Actor Colin Farrell made a steam video with Playboy Playmate Nicole Narain.

Shortly after their divorce announcement in November 2006, Kevin Federline made the claim that he had a sex video of himself and Britney Spears. The existence of the video was never confirmed and many suspected that Kevin fabricated the video to blackmail Britney and gain custody of their two children. If the sex tape existed, many believed it would be damaging to Britney’s career.

Unwanted Exposure or Good Publicity?

There’s a saying that any publicity is good publicity, but whether that holds true for celebrity sex videos is not clear. In some cases, the exposure can be damaging (at least temporarily), but for a celebrity whose star is fading, the publicity can reinvigorate their career or at least put their name in the news again.

• Survivor contestant Jenna Lewis and her new husband may or may not have wanted their sex tape to be leaked. Their sexy wedding night footage was available for purchase online for $40. The footage was rumored to have been put online by the couple themselves.
• In the case of Paris Hilton, the exposure got the heiress plenty of attention, but not necessarily bad attention. The exposure didn’t hurt her career, including the success of her reality show The Simple Life and other small acting roles.
• Pamela Anderson’s career didn’t suffer from her celebrity sex video, as she continued to act, model and write a book.
• Down and out actor Tom Sizemore released a sex video of himself with four women, most likely in an attempt to gain more attention while his career was sinking. The video didn’t seem to boost his prospects at all.
• Dustin Diamond, who played Screech on Saved by the Bell, released a sex video in 2006 in an effort to get more attention and make some money.

Final Thoughts

In order to truly keep those private moments under wraps, the best word of caution is for celebs to not even make racy videos. Why risk the public seeing what goes on behind closed doors – unless they really like the attention?
