Celebrity Cars

From LoveToKnow Celebrity

Like many things celebrity, celebrity cars are often flashier, faster and way cooler than your wheels. With a seemingly endless stream of money, today's stars are able to fulfill their every whim and fantasy, whether that is a hot pink Roadster or a collection of Dodge Vipers.

Jay Leno's Car Collection

Comedian Jay Leno is one of the most notorious celebrity car collectors. This funny man owns more than 100 cars and nearly as many motorcycles! Leno doesn't just collect the cars, he also restores and repairs antique cars. Not one to keep things to himself, Leno is happy to share his automotive knowledge through his Popular Mechanics column.

Reportedly, his favorite car is the ultra fast McLaren F-1. Costing a cool million, the car travels at warp speeds of 240mph. Some of his other notable celebrity cars include:

  • 1931 Bentley
  • 2006 Bugatti Veyron
  • 1955 Buick Roadster
  • 1916 Crane Simplex Model 5 Holbrook Skiff
  • 1981 DeLorean DMC-12
  • Several Dodge Vipers
  • 1930 Duesenberg SJ
  • 1950s Hudson Hornet
  • 1913 Mercer
  • 1932 Packard
  • 1906 Stanley Steamer

Jay Leno has also sold some of his prized motorcycles in charity celebrity auctions. For more information about Jay's amazing collection, visit Jay Leno's Garage.

What is it about funny guys and their cars? Like fellow comedian Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld is an avid car collector. Unlike Leno, who has a diverse collection with little rhyme or reason, there is a method to Seinfeld's car madness: the man loves Porsches! Jerry Seinfeld's collection contains 47 Porsches, including:

  • 1955 550 Spyder (notable for being the same model and color as the car that James Dean was driving at the time of his fatal crash)
  • Several 911s
  • Several Boxsters, each a different color
  • One 959, reported to be Seinfeld's "pride and joy," despite the fact that it is not legal for American roads

Jerry Seinfeld loves his cars so much that he gave his wife a 1958 Porsche 1600 Speedster as a wedding gift.

David Gallagher, Collector in Training

While you might not immediately recognize his name, you would likely recognize David Gallagher's face. Gallagher reached stardom on the WB's sugary sweet series, 7th Heaven. In addition to acting, he is passionate about American cars, a love he attributes to his mechanic dad. He says, "I grew up with cars. I’ve grown up around classic cars and antiques. I have the utmost respect for American muscle cars." David's first car was a gift from his dad, a 1994 Ford Mustang. The first car he bought for himself, however, had a bit larger price tag -- a Plymouth Prowler. Other cars in his American car collection include:

  • 1964 Chevy Impala
  • 1973 Ford Mustang convertible
  • 1971 Oldsmobile 442
  • 1976 Pontiac Firebird

Ultimate Tough Guy Cars: Hummers

When you think of Arnold Swarzenegger, what do you think of? Politics aside, muscles, muscles and more muscles probably top the list. A star of action films long before he became governor of California, Arnold is known for his muscle-bound exterior and his heavy-handed strength. It seems only natural that this buff and tough guy would drive military-grade automobiles. Arnold Swarzenegger and his wife, Maria Shriver, own eight Hummers, vehicles once used exclusively by the armed forces. Swarzenegger calls the Hummer "an incredibly precise and forceful machine." You would expect nothing less for the Terminator. In recent years, Arnold's political affiliations have brought on a more environmentally conscience mindframe. First, he sought to have his Hummers coverted to hydrogen power. Recently, though, he vowed to give up his beloved cars in a move to save the environment.

Despite their gas-guzzling tendencies and the current trend of going "green," many stars are proud to be seen in their rugged Hummers. Other celebrities driving the tough guy (or gal) vehicles include:

  • Reggie Bush, NFL player and Heisman Trophy winner
  • Tony Stewart, NASCAR winner
  • 50 Cent, rapper
  • D'Angelo, R&B singer
  • James Cameron, movie director
  • LeBron James, NBA player
  • Shaquille O'Neal, NBA player
  • Coolio, rapper
  • Adrien Brody, actor

Still other stars go in the opposite direction, placing environmental concerns above their own needs for flash and speed. One favorite with these "green" stars is the Toyota Prius, a hybrid car known for its extremely efficient gas milage. Whether they do it to make a statement or for legitimate concern for the world, the list of Prius owners reads like a celebrity who's who:
