Celeb Scandal
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
There's nothing like a good celeb scandal to get the chatter going at the water cooler every morning!
What Makes a Real Celeb Scandal?
Tabloids, both in print and on the web, rely on these celebrity scandals to keep themselves in business. Judging by the number of readers they have, there's no fear of the scandals drying up any time soon.
There are times when a celebrity makes a gaffe in public or does something truly outrageous, but these actions fail to make much of an impression with the public. They might get a small mention or two in the media, but then curiosity fades and the actions are long forgotten.
A real celeb scandal occurs when there's some mystery surrounding the event, or when something unthinkable happens. A suspicious celebrity death, high profile divorce, or when someone commits a serious crime – these are the big celeb scandals that have a long back story, and the mysteries unfold as the days pass by.
Anyone following the news of a big celeb scandal is waiting for the next update, so they can be the first to relay the information to others. People hang on the media to hear the latest about the scandal. This is the stuff legends are made of!
Suspicious or Sudden Deaths
When a celebrity dies of natural causes, there are tributes to be paid and fans mourn the loss of one of their idols. However, if there are suspicious causes behind these deaths, they become a celeb scandal.
For example, when Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, fans were stunned. His death was sudden and completely unexpected. Mass media struggled to confirm that Jackson had indeed died, and the investigation unraveled quite slowly. Jackson family members, including his sister LaToya, insisted that Michael had been murdered. Allegedly, there is evidence pointing to missing money and property that disappeared the day of Jackson's death.
Another example of a celebrity death scandal is Marilyn Monroe. The official cause of death in Monroe's case is listed as suicide, and it's widely known that the actress had previously attempted to take her own life on four other occasions. However, there are some who still insist that her death was murder, or perhaps accidental.
Unthinkable Crimes
Other celeb scandal fodder includes the stars committing heinous and serious crimes. Take the O.J. Simpson case, for instance. Simpson was accused of murdering his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. The case became one of the most public and media-intensive trials in history. Simpson was acquitted of all charges, only to be tried and found guilty in a civil suit later on.
Another case of a celeb scandal that resulted from a crime is one that's much less serious in nature, but highly embarrassing for the star involved. In 1998, singer George Michael was caught for allegedly soliciting sex in a public men's bathroom in California. In 2006, Michael was reportedly seen trolling for, and hooking up for, sex in a London park. Michael is no stranger to scandals these days, with accusations of drug abuse thrown into the mix.
High Profile Divorce
There are so many celeb scandals that revolve around their divorces that it's impossible to keep track of them all! Here are some of the more memorable, and scandal-ridden, celebrity divorces that have made headlines:
- Mel Gibson and Robyn Gibson
- Jon and Kate Gosselin
- Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards
- Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston
- Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil
- Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills
- Alec Baldwin and Kim Bassinger
- Michael and Juanita Jordan
- Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey
- Eminem and Kimberly Mathers
Other Types of Celeb Scandal
Of course, not all celebrity scandals involve death, crime, or divorce. There are all kinds of other scandals, such as:
- Sex tapes
- Infidelity
- Plastic surgeries
- Drugs and alcohol
- Rapid weight loss and eating disorders
It seems that not a day goes by when there isn't some sort of celeb scandal brewing somewhere!
