It appears that Carmen Electra, born Tara Leigh Patrick, has come to terms with her reputation as a provocative sex symbol and the fact that her personal escapades tend to attract more attention than her professional accomplishments. During one media interview, she even told a reporter, “I need to keep my name in the media because I really am without talent."
Early Years
From a young age, Carmen Electra knew she wanted to be a star. After attending Princeton High School in Sharonville, Ohio, she studied at the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati. One of her classmates at this highly selective school was Nick Lachey from 98 Degrees.
As a teenager, she worked as a dancer at Kings Island Amusement Park and frequently modeled for Target. However, Electra caught her first big break when she was discovered by Prince at the age of 18. She changed her name, signed with his Paisley Park record label, and released a self-titled debut CD in 1993. Her single Go-Go Dancer met with modest success—giving her the confidence needed to pursue other goals.
Career
Shortly after posing for Playboy in 1996, Carmen Electra began appearing regularly on Baywatch and MTV’s Singled Out.
Today, Electra is best known for playing sexy bombshell characters in movies such as Scary Movie, Starsky & Hutch, American Dreamz, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, and Date Movie. In upcoming months, you’ll be able see her in Full of It, Hot Tamale, Beyond Legend: Johnny Kakota, and National Lampoon’s Pledge This!
Of course, no summary of her career would be complete without mentioning Carmen Electra’s Aerobic Striptease, the phenomenally popular series of workout DVDs for women who aspire to mimic her sexy moves. Titles include Aerobic Striptease, Fit to Strip, Advanced Aerobic Striptease, The Lap Dance, and Hip-Hop.
Personal Life
Carmen Electra has been married and divorced twice. She was married to basketball star Dennis Rodman from 1998 to 1999 and rocker Dave Navarro from 2003 to 2006. Carmen and Dave documented much of their relationship in the MTV reality show 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave.
In addition to her failed marriages, Carmen Electra has been romantically linked to Tommy Lee, Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit, and B-Real of the rap group Cypress Hill. Although she frequently spoke of wanting to start a family during her marriage to Dave Navarro, Electra has no children.
