Cameron Diaz

Early Years

Cameron Michelle Diaz was born in San Diego, California, to a Cuban American father and mother of mixed heritage. Cameron attended Polytechnic High School, a school boasting such successful alumni as Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Billie Jean King, and Tiffani Thiessen.

Cameron Diaz began working as a model at the age of 16 and was represented by the prestigious agency, Elite Model Management. She appeared in ads for such high-profile companies as Calvin Klein, Levi's, and Coca-Cola. Cameron worked around the world, including stints in Morocco, Australia, France, Mexico, and Japan. It was in Japan that Cameron met famed video director Carlo de la Torre. She and Carlo went on to live together for five years.

Despite the thrill of a fashion career, Cameron wanted more. At the age of 22, the model made the surprising and life-altering decision to audition for The Mask. Despite being an unknown in the world of acting, and having no acting experience whatsoever, she won the female lead and worked opposite Jim Carrey.

A Star is Born

Cameron Diaz, spurred by her success at The Mask auditions, took acting lessons. She went on to star in several lesser-known movies, including Feeling Minnesota and She's the One. She also had a supporting role in the Julia Roberts movie, My Best Friend's Wedding, but it was There's Something About Mary that really launched her career. The movie was slightly quirky and off-beat, the perfect film to highlight Cameron's fun, playful side.

After her starring role in There's Something About Mary, Cameron Diaz went on to star in several hit movies, including:

  • Being John Malkovich
  • Any Given Sunday
  • Charlie's Angels
  • Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle
  • Shrek
  • Shrek 2
  • Vanilla Sky (supporting role)
  • In Her Shoes
  • The Holiday

Personal Life

After her relationship with Carlo de la Torre ended, Cameron went on to high-profile, long term relationships with both Matt Dillon and Jared Leto. Cameron and Leto ended their four year relationship in 2002, and Cameron began dating Justin Timberlake the following year. Despite near-constant reports of the couple's supposed troubles, the two are still together. As often as the press reports of impending breakups, reports of impending nuptials are just as common. Despite the marital rumblings, Diaz insists there will be no wedding. She admits to being afraid of commitment.

Accidents and Controversies

Early in her career, Cameron Diaz earned a reputation for being prone to accidents and illness. During the filming of The Mask, the film newcomer developed a painful ulcer. Soon after, she injured her wrist during martial arts training for Mortal Kombat. She has also broken her nose several times.

She, along with boyfriend Justin Timberlake, has also been involved in multiple altercations with overly agressive paparazzi. In one incident, Cameron and Justin took a photographer's camera after the man "ambushed" them. In another, Cameron was almost run over by an angry photographer.

Comments

Robert, Cameron Diaz isn't married, as far as we all know. She's gone on record as saying that she isn't really "into" it. So, we probably won't see her walking down the aisle anytime soon.
