Britney Spears Files for Divorce
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
In what probably comes as no surprise to most people, Britney Spears filed for a divorce from Kevin Federline on November 7th. The couple's marriage lasted for a little over two years, and they had two children together, but to most it seemed like the downfall of their marriage was imminent.
How K-Fed and Brit Began
Britney Spears met dancer Kevin Federline in a Hollywood club. They married in September 2004, just eight months after Spears had a quickie Las Vegas wedding to childhood friend Jason Alexander. Kevin and Britney’s whirlwind romance was chronicled in the reality series Chaotic.
Their Marriage
Their relationship seemed shaky, with updates on Britney Spears’ website alluding to problems between the two. In interviews, however, both seemed upbeat about their love for one another and supportive of each other’s careers.
Rumors began swirling over the weekend when Spears did not attend any of Federline’s promotional events for his new CD, Playing with Fire. At his record release party in New York City, he clarified any rockiness in his marriage to People magazine by saying, "I don't waste any energy thinking about these things. I don't get caught up in it."
Britney Spears’ Divorce Papers
A Los Angeles County Superior Court spokesperson confirmed the filing of divorce paperwork, stating "irreconcilable differences" were cited as the reason for divorce.
Britney Spears Seeking Custody
The couple has a year-old son, Sean Preston, and a new baby who was born on September 12th. The mystery of that child’s name was only recently cleared up, and divorce papers identify his name as Jayden James Federline. With two children in the mix, there are certain to be questions over who will have custody of the kids. Spears is seeking custody of both, granting visitation to Federline.
