After all of the mud-slinging between Rosie O’Donnell and Donald Trump, The View’s creator, Barbara Walters, finally speaks out.

The Incident

It all started when Rosie O’Donnell made some inappropriate comments about Donald Trump in response to his decision not to fire Miss USA, Tara Conner. From there, it just escalated, with Trump firing back insults and threatening to sue. Through it all, Barbara Walters remained relatively quiet.

Trump’s Claims

This war of words has become pretty heavy-handed on Trump’s side. True, he shot back in his defense, but he continues to attack O’Donnell’s status and appearance, with put-downs about her weight and talent. He even maintained that Barbara Walters regretted her decision to hire Rosie.

Barbara Walters’ Response

Now that the dust seems to have settled a bit, Walters commented that she has no regrets about hiring Rosie O’Donnell, saying "She has brought a new vitality to this show and the ratings prove it." Of course, Trump later asserted that it was because of him that the show’s ratings were improving.

Smoothing the Waters

Barbara Walters read a statement prepared by ABC on Wednesday’s episode of The View. The statement clarified a number of things, such as the fact that Trump never personally filed for bankruptcy, but his casino companies filed for business bankruptcy. The companies are now out of bankruptcy.
