On July 20, Haley Joel Osment's A.I. failed him when he crashed his car, resulting in his car landing right-side down. Fortunately for him, he only suffered minor injuries. Unfortunately, it has now led to charges filed by the Los Angeles District Attorney against the former child star.
The Down and Dirty on Haley Joel Osment
While original reports failed to mention any wayward activity on the now 18-year-old's part, on August 17 three DUI-related misdemeanor charges were filed:
- Driving with a blood alcohol level of at least .05 while being under 21
- Possession of marijuana while driving
- Driving while having a blood alcohol level higher than the legal limit of .08
Osment is scheduled to turn himself in at a later date. At which time, he will be released on $15,000 bail, and then arraigned on September 19. If he is convicted of all charges, he faces up to six months in county jail, but since he is so cute and talented, not to mention it is his first DUI offense, it is more likely he will face probation and be ordered to seek drug/alcohol treatment.
Commentary
You would think an actor with the fore withal to be nominated for an Academy Award before he got is his first pimple, earned good grades in school, and hopes to attend Yale would have enough good sense—if not Sixth Sense--to learn from history that child stars, drugs and alcohol, and nosy reports don't mix.
Perhaps this will be a wake up call for Haley Joel Osment, and he will use it as a stepping stone to get what was once a stellar acting career back on track.
