No one needs reminding that Ashlee Simpson's musical "cred" is non-existent. This said "cred" is what caused an outrage among Fall Out Boy fans when rumors surfaced that Pete Wentz was dating her. To Wentz's credit, he never gave into the pressure and has been dating the second Simpson sister since 2006.

The Engagement Announcement

Simpson and Wentz didn't release a statement via their managers and publicists, instead the two chose to post the announcement on the website friendsorenemies.com. After noting that her fans are "the best" Ashlee Simpson announced that "Yes, we are thrilled to announce that we are happily engaged."

Asking for Permission

With his full-on Emo hair and guyliner, Pete Wentz seems anything but traditional. When it comes to engagements though, he is old school all the way, asking Ashlee's father Joe for permission to marry his daughter before asking Ashlee herself. Wonder what the much tattooed, guyliner wearing, alt-rocking Wentz would have done if Papa Joe had said "No." Nevertheless, Joe claims he is "so excited to have Pete as a part of the family." Remember, he was excited to have Nick Lachey as part of the family too and we all know how that turned out.

Hopefully this time, Joe will keep his nose out of his grown daughter's business and Ashlee and Pete will opt not to tape the first two years of their married life for the entire world to see. That always ends badly.
