Anna Nicole Smith Laid to Rest
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Anna Nicole Smith was finally laid to rest nearly a month after her death. On March 2, 2007, after a long court battle over where the former reality television star should be buried, she was placed in a lot at Lakeview Memorial Park cemetery in Nassau, Bahamas, next to her late son.
Star-Studded Affair
Anna Nicole Smith's funeral was just how she would have wanted it -- glamorous, glitzy and the center of attention. Everything was pink, according to reports. The pallbearers wore pink ties, she wore a pink dress and tiara and her coffin was draped in a rhinestone-studded pink blanket. Even the pews were adorned in pink roses. A painting of Smith decorated the altar.
Hundreds of family, friends, islanders and tourists were there. Some to pay their last respects and some to be part of the center stage that has made headline news since her death. The media, however, was silent about her farewell. Entertainment Tonight cameras were the only media allowed into her funeral.
Legal Battles Continue
Two days before her burial, a Florida court upheld a ruling that the former Playboy model should be buried in the Bahamas despite pleas from her estranged mother, Virgie Arthur, who wanted Smith buried in Texas. Legal action is still pending regarding the custody of Smith's five-month-old daughter.
Cause of Death Still Unknown
Anna Nicole Smith, 39, died February 8, 2007 in a Florida hotel room of unknown causes. The final autopsy report is due out by mid-March 2007. Her son, Daniel, 20, died last year in the Bahamas of suspicious circumstances.
